Dear Readers,
Pictured above is a mighty Cottonwood tree that stands on the lower shores of the Assiniboine River near my Wolseley home. It’s just one of the trees I write about in Out on a Limb, a book about the extraordinary value and benefits of our urban forests.
I had tremendous fun writing the book, but now the time has come to let it go to find its place in the world. Which can be a bit nerve-wracking, because you never know how readers will respond. So when I got the following feedback from my first three readers - people I greatly respect and admire - I just had to share it!
Hope to see you all at the book launch on April 20th, 7PM, at McNally Robinson Booksellers.
More details on that soon.
Advance Praise For Out on A Limb
“A practical and passionate guide to preserving and growing the urban tree canopy...a much
needed clarion call for our ecological future." Helen Humphreys, author of Followed By the
Lark.
"Out on a Limb is a fascinating exploration into the importance of urban forests and the
immense value that trees provide to our lives and cities...a needed call for an ecologically
focused future.” - Dr. Suzanne Simard, Professor of Forest Ecology, Lead of the Mother Tree
Project & Program, and Author of Finding the Mother Tree and When the Forest Breathes.
"An inspiring journey to meet some of Erna Buffie’s favourite trees in an unlikely place -
Winnipeg’s urban forests. Along the way we discover not only what urban trees need to
survive, but just how much we need them to thrive in our cities... " Caroline Underwood,
Executive producer and a wildlife & science filmmaker for The Nature of Things on programs
that include Turtle Beach, among many others.
