Out on a Limb is Launched!

Well it’s been quite the whirlwind these past few weeks, beginning on May 20th with the
official launch of Out On A Limb: Saving the Urban Canopy at Winnipeg’s McNally Robinson
Booksellers. My friend and fellow author, Ariel Gordon was a superb host, and we had a
fantastic standing room only crowd of tree lovers.
Much to my delight - and shock, quite frankly! – Out On A Limb has been on the nonfiction
best seller list at McNallys for the past 9 weeks. So, huge thanks to those of you who helped
to put my book on that list. And if you can spare the time, please consider rating or
reviewing it at Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/ or Amazon.ca
Reader ratings really do help books to reach a wider audience!
And speaking of audiences, I had a great one on May 30th at the Calgary Climate Hub’s
second annual Tree Party, called “Plant Baby Plant.” It was a wonderful event with great
activities for kids, introductory remarks by the celebrated author of Braiding Sweet Grass,
Robin Wall Kimmerer, and a list of excellent speakers, including Carol Monture, one of the
leads at Indigenous Climate Action, who gave an inspiring talk about indigenous-led,
nature-based solutions.
My next destination on the book tour is Edmonton, for the annual June conference of The Association for Literature, The Environment and Culture Canada. I’ll be participating in a
panel called Saving The Earth: Writing for Wider Audiences with Trish Audette Longo and
Ariel Gordon. But more on that later!

In the meantime, for those of you in Winnipeg, please keep an eye out for Trees Please
Winnipeg’s “Save The Shade” election pledge. We’ll be talking to every City Council and
Mayoral candidate encouraging them to sign a pledge committing them to drafting a bylaw
to better protect Winnipeg’s mature trees on both public and private land.
For more information on Trees Please, head over to https://treespleasewinnipeg.com And
if you want to help out with the pledge drive drop me a line, and we’ll get you on our
volunteer list.
Finally, huge thanks to everyone who continues to follow my op eds on the pages of the
Winnipeg Free Press and my blog posts here at Train of Thought. Your letters inspire and
energize me to continue the fight to make Winnipeg (and every other city in North America!) greener, healthier, more equitable, and last but least, more livable!
